Away Weekend

The first and second SDHI Postgraduate Retreats took place at Kindrogan Field Centre near Pitlochry in April 2005 (3 days) and June 2006 (2 days). See http://www.field-studies-council.org/kindrogan It attracted students from a number of disciplines, including Geography, Management, Medicine and Nursing. The retreats involved a range of student-led presentations, discussions and staff-led training.

The meetings provided:

• The opportunity to become familiar with wider disciplinary perspectives on health related research, essential for current and future multi-disciplinary working.
• The opportunity to discuss methodological issues with fellow researchers and become familiar with a range of research methods outwith your own PhD
• Increased contact with health related researchers from across the Universities of Dundee and St Andrews to help future collaboration and employment options.
• The opportunity to explain and defend your proposed research in a less familiar, but nonetheless supportive and friendly environment,.
  

The retreats attracted students from a number of disciplines, including Medicine, Nursing, Geography and Management. The retreats involved a range of student-led presentations, discussions, staff-led training, free-time and fun evening activities.

The retreats were well evaluated, and participants' comments were:
