Dr Charles Hendry

Research interests

My PhD explored caseload priority setting in learner and trained nurses, however, my current decision making research explores the concept of 'watchful waiting' as a strategy in prioritising patient care. This work examines the factors that influence the adoption of this strategy in nursing and midwifery and makes comparisons with this approach as used in medicine. I am particularly interested in novice/expert differences, and the nature of expertise. Methodologically I have experience in think aloud method or verbal protocols examining healthcare professionals' critical thinking and decision making skills. I have also used other methods including simulation, observation, and interviews.
