Research Interests

Investigation of the role of the vascular endothelium and the possible factors involved in early endothelial dysfunction and its modification in normal children and adults, and in asymptomatic disease, as well as in established vascular disease states. Novel non-invasive techniques for transdermal drug delivery (iontophoresis) and microvascular blood flow assessment (laser Doppler imaging) are been used. These assessments are being complemented by measurement of arterial endothelial function and arterial compliance, using high-resolution ultrasound and arterial waveform analysis. Potentially, the most exciting future direction relates to detection and improvement of endothelial function in children and young adults through modification in diet and lifestyle.
