Vikki Entwistle is Professor of Values in Health Care at the University of
Dundee. She is an Associate Director of SDHI and a member of the Alliance for
Self Care research.
Vikki has previously worked at the NHS Centre for Reviews and Dissemination
at the University of York, the Health Services Research Unit at the University
of Aberdeen, and the Department of Health Policy and Management at Harvard School
of Public Health. She has conducted research in a number of domains, including:
media coverage of health issues; the involvement of service users in health
services research and planning; the development and provision of information
about health care effectiveness for service users; patients' involvement in
decisions about their own health care; and patients' perspectives on and contributions
to the quality and safety of health care.
Vikki's current research relates broadly to the influence of health care policies
and practices on people's self identities, vulnerabilities and opportunities
to contribute to their health. Vikki is increasingly engaging with ethical as
well as social analyses. She is particularly interested in the application of
relational understandings of autonomy to health care contexts, and in the development,
implementation and implications of policies that aim to enhance individuals'
contributions to their own care and health.
Vikki is the Editor of Health Expectations: an international journal of public
participation in health care and health policy (http://www.wiley.com/bw/journal.asp?ref=1369-6513).
She also serves on a number of health services research and policy committees.
